The Challenge

The Challenge

The Challenge

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) remains one of the leading causes of death, and when it strikes in schools, the impact is devastating. In Texas, thousands of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur annually, but only a fraction of victims receive bystander CPR or timely AED intervention. Each minute without defibrillation decreases survival rates by 7-10%. It's crucial for schools to ensure that their AED in Dallas products, including pads and batteries, are regularly inspected and maintained to maximize the chances of survival.

The Solution

The Challenge

The Challenge

The Texas Hearts R.E.A.D.Y. Program establishes certified 'Texas Hearts Schools' through awareness campaigns, CPR/AED education, and well-structured cardiac emergency response plans. By collaborating with cardiovascular leaders, including hospitals and heart centers, we enhance our lifesaving mission with medical credibility and community recognition. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of regular inspection and maintenance of AED in Dallas products, including pads and batteries, to ensure readiness in emergencies.

New Texas Law

The Challenge

New Texas Law

Texas schools are now required to develop and implement Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERPs) in accordance with the recently passed House Bill 3485. This legislation mandates that these plans be established by the first instructional day of the 2027-2028 school year, following evidence-based practices recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA). While private schools only need to create these plans if they receive an AED from the state agency or obtain funding for purchasing or leasing an AED, they must also ensure proper inspection and maintenance of AED in Dallas products, including pads and batteries.

The Texas Hearts R.E.A.D.Y. Program helps schools create a safer, fully prepared campus for cardiac emergencies. Because survival rates rise dramatically when an AED reaches a victim within four minutes, we focus on strategic AED placement throughout hallways, gyms, and high-traffic areas. Our program provides staff training, student awareness education, complete AED management with inspections and expiration tracking, and annual cardiac emergency drills to meet state requirements. Together, we help schools move beyond basic compliance to become truly ready to respond — and ready to save lives.

The Texas Hearts R.E.A.D.Y. Program supports athletics departments by ensuring teams are prepared both at home and on the road. We provide travel AED kits and medical readiness modulators designed for away games, tournaments, and off-campus activities. Our program also encourages coordination with opposing teams through Medical Time Out sheets, helping coaches align on emergency procedures, AED locations, and response roles before every game. By equipping athletic programs with the right tools, training, and communication practices, we help schools create safer sports environments and ensure everyone is prepared to save a life — no matter what field, gym, or stadium they compete in.

Universities and college campuses house thousands of students, faculty, and staff every day, making rapid access to AEDs essential for preventing avoidable cardiac deaths. The Texas Hearts R.E.A.D.Y. Program strengthens campus-wide preparedness through strategic AED placement in academic buildings, residence halls, recreation centers, and athletic facilities. We provide staff and student training, comprehensive AED management with inspections and expiration tracking, and support for annual cardiac emergency drills to ensure compliance and readiness. With a focus on both high-traffic areas and remote campus zones, we help institutions create a coordinated, campus-wide emergency response system that empowers everyone to act quickly and save lives.

Data  shows us that 1 in 25 high schools in the United States can expect a Sudden Cardiac Arrest event each year, so it is incredibly important to equip your campus with the tools to respond - Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). While CPR buys time during a cardiac emergency, the only way to restore the heart to its normal rhythm and help save a life is by using an AED.

Multiple studies have shown that placing AEDs in schools is proven to significantly increase survival rates from cardiac arrest emergencies to over 70%! That’s 7x higher than the national average, which speaks to the power of having AEDs on campus.

The requirements for having AEDs in schools vary by state and local laws, but most schools have safety guidelines that include the need for both AEDs and cardiac arrest response plans. Learn more about your state’s AED laws by giving us a call. Even if not legally required, most schools choose to equip themselves with AEDs as a part of their commitment to student and community safety.

Safety guidelines suggest that an AED should be accessible within 2 minutes from anywhere on campus. In other words, students, visitors and staff should never be more than a 1 minute walk away from an AED. Colleges and universities usually have more AEDs than high schools and elementary schools due to their size and the large number of students, staff and community members they house. For example, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a college with over 11,900 students, rolled out a new AED program that has placed AEDs in every single campus building!

A school’s AED program is usually run by the school nurse, athletic trainer, or athletic director, but by no means are these the only faculty members who can take on this responsibility. Anyone who is present on campus and committed to campus safety can be responsible for managing and implementing a school’s AED program!
